Grant for our Silvan Reserve
Our Silvan Reserve is managed by the friends of the Helmeted Honeyeaters. We recently received a Grant of $6000 from the Department of Sustainability and Environment.
We are directed to use the Grant to reduce infestation of Blackberry by 50%, eradicate Spanish Heath and all Pines up to 5m high.
We also have to small scale experimental ecological patch burns.

Term Deposits
Additional to the money for the Red Tailed Black Cockatoo we have raised a further $250,000 which we hold on Term Deposit.
We are looking at the possibility of using this money to acquire land in the Yarra Valley that can be converted into a Reserve for Wildlife. Ideally we are looking for adjacent titles, with a property on one that we can either rent or sell off to provide funds for future Reserves.

We hold our savings in Term Deposit. Presently with approximately $350,000, we are provided with an extra income of $24,000 per annum.

During 2007 and into 2008, we have continued to trade well. We would like to thank all the people who have donated saleable items and also to thank those who have traded with the Centre.
We more than cover our running costs from stock such as book and maps that we buy. Hence we can assure everyone that all money raised from selling donations goes directly to Wildlife causes.
In a recent survey of American Charities it was stated that an average 30% of donations actually reach the Charities target. Over 7 years we have maintained a 100% target and intend to always maintain this figure.

We will always be a completely Voluntary Organisation there being no material gain by working for JESW.

Major Focus
Our major focus continues to be ethically raising funds for Wildlife. We are a non political organisation and no funds are given to political issues. A second important focus is to provide a means by which anyone in the Yarra Valley can help Wildlife and their environment. The Judith Eardley Save Wildlife Centre opens 7 days a week closing only 4 days per year. Anyone and everyone can help Wildlife by helping our Organisation.

Helping to Save the Orangutan
In 2008 we are giving $ 10,000 to the Orangutan Sanctuary in Java to enable several workers to travel to Australia to spend time working with Vets at the Healesville Sanctuary. The skills learnt will be of great use when practiced at the Orangutan Sanctuary.

Plastic Bag Free at Last
Since the beginning of the year the Judith Eardley Save Wildlife Centre has refrained from providing plastic bags. Previously we used recycled plastic bags when customers asked for them. We expected to come under pressure, however the reality is that 99% of customers are understanding and many congratulate us on our decision. On the rare occasion that a bag is necessary we usually are able to supply a paper bag. Should other businesses be thinking of being plastic bag free we hope they are encouraged by our experience.

If we consider our beautiful planet to be alive and evolving then we should strive to live harmoniously with it. Plastic Bags may seem a small issue but when multiplied by the billions of people on the planet, we can see that saving the earth is in many ways collectively in our hands and that when we act together everything is possible.
We would like to thank all our customers and our supporters for helping us to become plastic bag free at last.

Fund Raiser 2008
We are setting up a Save Wildlife Pledge on the internet. People who are concerned and care for Wildlife will be able to make a Pledge which will be recorded in a worldwide website , a minimum of $1 for children and $2 for adults will be asked for. When finished the website will be located at www.wildlifepledge.org.au
